Didactic Stage at Wolford College
Initial Orientation:
Wolford College will discuss the contents of this Student Handbook in the first week of admission into the program. Special attention will be given to key areas that will affect students during the first semester. Any questions should be brought up at this time. Click here for an overview of what will be discussed during this time.
Location:
Classes during the first year will take place in the Naples campus. Students are expected to live in close proximity. Travel excuses will not be accepted if you elect to live outside of the area. Housing questions should be referred to the Director of Enrollment and Student Services.
Classroom attendance:
Classroom attendance is mandatory and will count towards your grade.
Lecture Notes:
All of the lecture notes will be made available on MOODLE. The notes are usually available one to two days prior to the lecture.
Reading List:
The reading list is made available to enhance your understanding of the material. It is recommended that you read the material prior to the lecture. This will facilitate your learning.
Nursing License, BLS, ACLS, and PALS:
Each student is responsible for maintaining current unrestricted nursing licensure, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification. All of the above must be current throughout the duration of the program plus 90 days after completion of the program. Failure may result in inability to sit for the certification exam. While in the clinical area if one fails to maintain the above it will result in immediate suspension. All time missed during this period shall be made up prior to graduation or may be added to the end of the student's progression plan to delay graduation. Supension will be handled as outlined per policy. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that certification be maintained and updated 2 months prior to graduation if necessary.
Time Commitment:
Students can expect to spend approximately 60 – 65 hours per week directly related to Wolford College, i.e.: study, classroom, clinical time
Primary Clinical Orientation:
During the second and third semester you will begin your clinical exposure to anesthesia. Prior to being placed into the clinical area you will attend Primary Clinical Orientation that includes iatrogenic complications and universal precautions.
Secondary Clinical Orientation:
Prior to going to your assigned clinical site you will receive an orientation to the site as well as a review of anesthesia equipment, airway management, and universal precautions.

Dress code and Equipment:
In order to maintain a positive image, faculty, staff and students of Wolford College will follow the dress code guidelines. Healthcare professionals must present an image that reflects commitment to quality care. In order to accomplish this goal, students are expected to dress in accordance with the guidelines established for their profession.
When you are at Wolford College you are welcome to dress casual though when are doing clinical work please follow the clinical stage dress code.

Clinical Vacation Request:
- Prior to going to your final clinical site, vacation request will be accepted in writing.
- Vacations will be assigned for the remaining 16 months.
- There will be a black out period during the AANA national convention (occurs in August), were no vacations will be allowed.
- Vacations must be approved by the Assistant Program Director.
- Requests for vacation must be submitted using the leave request form.
- Only original forms will be accepted. No emails, faxes or phone calls will be accepted to request time off.
