Clinical Sites at Wolford College

During the 16 months of clinical training, students rotate through different clinical sites throughout Southwest of Florida. These site are primarily found in Naples and Tampa. The experiences offered by these clinical sites is as different as the communities they serve. It is the belief of the Wolford College staff that these differences are vital to provide its students with a wide breadth of practice necessary for a highly trained CRNA.

Collier Anesthesia, P.A.

Collier Anesthesia (CAPA) is located in Naples, Florida. This community is mostly composed of retirees with a large geriatric population. This practice setting offers the CRNA student a large variety of 'bread and butter' cases along with vascular, cardiac, orthopedic, and neuro spine surgical cases. Rotations are offered at Naples Day Surgery, North Collier Hospital, The Birthing Center, Bonita Community Health Center, and the Naples Community Hospitals.

North Tampa Anesthesia Consultants

North Tampa Anesthesia Consultants (NTAC) is a group north of Tampa. They offer a wide variety of cases along with obstetric anesthesia. Rotations are offered in Davenport, Springhill and Brooksville. Pictured to the left are Dr's. Lombardi and Perez. These are two of the fine attending physicians that will help develop you into a fine, highly trained CRNA.

Punta Gorda

The anesthesia experience in Punta Gorda is a diverse exposure to multiple surgical and anesthetic challenges. Due to the patient population age, geriatric related issues abound. We see patients with coronary artery disease for both cardiac and non-cardiac procedures. Invasive lines and fiberoptic management of airways are quite common. Pediatric cases and neurosurgical exposure, while not excessive, are adequate enough in numbers for a well rounded education. Trauma and obstetrical cases are not available at our facility. Students are an integral and accepted part of the anesthetia team. Close supervision initially ensures student comfort levels and maximizes learning opportunities, while providing safety for our patients. The senior student plans and provides a more independent anesthetic so that the transition from SRNA to CRNA can easily be accomplished. The hospital itself is close to I-75 for easy access, has slightly less than 200 beds in three stories, and has ample parking. Wolford College curriculum anesthesia text books are available for easy reference, while library and lounge facilities provide quiet study environments for use during any “down” time. Internet access, breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided in the nearby lounge to nourish both cerebral and gastric cravings. In summary, our goal is to provide a stimulating working and learning environment in which masters’ level students can develop into well rounded, safe and successful anesthetists.
